Thank you Barrie Out of the Cold
You may not have a lot to give
In terms of wealth or power
But what you give to me outweighs
The rich man's ivory tower.
The good times and the laughter
The memories and the fun
The fellowship and trusting
Cannot by gold be won.
The time, the love, the willingness
To help where needed
These gifts to me are priceless
And they do not go unheeded.
When life's unfair and I despair
And feel I cannot cope
When I come close to giving up,
Abandoning all hope
That's when I count my blessings
And shed the cloak of fear
That's when I feel so privileged
And I thank you - the volunteer

OUT OF THE COLD

THERE WAS A TIME WHEN I WAS ON MY LUCK DOWN
FEELING THAT NONE CARED, WONDERING, WHERE DO I GO
MANY NIGHTS I STRUGGLED WITH MY SENSE OF PRIDE
IGNORING THE ANSWERS I KNEW WERE INSIDE
FALLING PREY SOMETIMES TO DEMON AND DEVILS
FOOLING MYSELF ON SO MANY LEVELS
FULL WELL KNOWING, THAT TO BE HUMBLE AND MEEK
SHOULD I BE THESE THINGS, I WOULD FIND ANSWERS I SEEK
I MET SOMEONE, FAR WISER THAN I
COME WITH ME HE SAID, THERE'S A PLACE NEARBY
I FOLLOWED THIS MAN, NOT KNOWING TO WHAT END
BUT, I KNOW NOW, HE WAS A TRUE FRIEND
HE SAID, IF YOU'RE FEELING TIRED AND THE GAME IS OLD
COME WITH ME, AND GET OUT OF THE COLD
HE BROUGHT ME TO A HOUSE, FULL OF JOY AND LIGHT
I WAS FED, CLOTHED, AND PUT UP FOR THE NIGHT
IN THE MORNIN'S LIGHT, I LOOKED ALL AROUND
THIS MAN I'LL CALL FRIEND, COULD NOT BE FOUND
THINKING BACK ON THAT NIGHT, FEELING SOMEWHAT HAUNTED
HOW A STRANGER SEEMED TO KNOW WHAT I NEEDED AND WANTED
NOW, I SIT HERE AGAIN, MUCH CLEARER OF MIND
THANKING THE LORD FOR HIS ANGELS, SO KIND
IN TRIBUTE TO THIS MAN, THIS STRANGER AND FRIEND
THOSE IN NEED, TO HIS HOUSE, I WILL THEM SEND INSIDE,
I KNOW, THIS STRANGER COULD ONLY ONE MAN BE
HE TOOK ON ALL OUR SIN, THAT WE MAY LIVE FREE
SO FOLLOW ME ALL, BE YOU YOUNG, BE YOU OLD
FOR, I KNOW OF A PLACE, THAT'S OUT OF THE COLD
